Reportedly, around 20 energy companies are bidding for it. Big names in the energy industry, such as Tenaga Nasional, YTL Power, Malakoff, Gamuda Bhd, and Petronas Gas, are reported to have bid for the project.
The bid also includes Gentari, a Petronas subsidiary focused on developing electric charging technology, and other small energy companies, such as BM Greentech and MSR Green Energy, have also reportedly submitted their bids. Details of the solar battery grid have also been revealed.
The additional quota will be offered by the Energy Commission (ST) starting on January 20 via a Request for Proposal process. “Solar power plants approved under this additional bidding round are scheduled to commence operations in 2027,” it said in a statement today.

Competitive REC Pricing: Solarvest offers RECs at a competitive US$5 to US$6 per megawatt, undercutting Tenaga’s US$10 per megawatt green electricity tariff. Kenanga emphasized that the long-term outlook for the solar industry is bright, with the electrification of the economy expected to triple current electricity usage by 2050.
The surge in solar adoption will be fueled by several pivotal developments: Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP): This initiative, with RM2.4 billion in EPCC contracts for an 800-megawatt (MW) capacity, will start contributing to earnings from the first quarter of 2025.
