This transaction supports the company’s ongoing ambition to accelerate the transition to renewable energy in the Nordic region. The 10MW BESS will be strategically located in SE3, helping to stabilize the grid by providing ancillary and balancing services across frequency markets.
The BESS will be in Borup in the municipality of Hillerod on Zealand and will be the first of many more BESS projects for the company. It is adding BESS to solar projects it has already been developing and the total energy storage capacity planned is close to 1GWh, across 25 sites.
This is RES’s largest BESS project in the Nordic region to date and marks the company’s fifth successful project in Ånge municipality. The project has been developed from the ground up by RES and is now being acquired as a fully ready-to-build asset.
The company expects the first BESS facilities to become operational in 2026. “The acquisition strengthens our position as a leading provider of flexibility energy solutions across Europe,” stated Ulrika Wising, managing director of Centrica Power.
