Recently upgraded and expanded, the Pulau Ubin Micro-grid features a test-bed which can potentially meet 90% of the daily electricity demand in the main village using solar power.
The analysis shows that controller cost data as a percentage of total microgrid costs have a wide range of costs among the projects in our database. In total, we had controller cost data for 21 microgrids out of a total of 80 projects. Controller costs per megawatt range from $6,200/MW–$470,000/MW, excluding outliers, with a mean of $155,000/MW.
With the new investment, the microgrid will be enhanced to integrate various low-carbon solutions including building-integrated photovoltaics and distributed energy storage systems. SIT and SP will also design a system that can further island buildings and certain floors from the national grid.
The micro-grid will be further extended beyond the main village to Kampong Sungei Durian to benefit more households on the island Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), in collaboration with SP Group, is developing Singapore’s First Experimental Urban Micro-grid. It will be housed in SIT’s future campus at Punggol Digital District when completed.
